At Breakthrough Fit Co, inclusion isn’t just a value — it’s a mission we live out every day. That’s why we’re so proud to announce our new assistive communication technology, created in collaboration with our friends at Our Infinite Expressions. This project is more than just tech — it’s about amplifying voices, breaking barriers, and creating new ways to connect.

Why Assistive Communication Matters

For years, programs like Touch Chat and other alternative or adaptive communication platforms have been invaluable tools. They provide individuals who are nonverbal—or whose voices look and sound different from what society is used to—with the opportunity to share their thoughts, express their needs, and participate fully.

But as powerful as these tools are, they also shine a light on a deeper truth: schools, businesses, and society still have a great deal to learn about listening to someone’s “voice” when that voice comes through a different lived experience. Communication isn’t one-size-fits-all, and true inclusion means recognizing and valuing every way people share their story.

Reworking the Model: From Touch Chat to Breakthrough Innovation

With this in mind, we took inspiration from Touch Chat and went a step further. Together with Our Infinite Expressions, we reworked the programming to create an interactive and visual schedule that does more than just speak words. It includes:

  • Voice-equipped schedules that narrate and guide

  • Integrated video supports that provide clarity and confidence

  • Low-tech communication charts available in both English and Spanish for accessibility in every environment

Whether high-tech or low-tech, the goal is simple: eliminate as many barriers as possible.

Communication Without Limits

We all communicate differently. Some through words. Some through gestures. Some through images, technology, or visuals. None of these methods are “less” — they’re simply different. By creating multiple solutions, we can meet people where they are and ensure that every individual has the chance to be heard.

This matters because communication is connection. And connection is what builds belonging, inclusion, and community.

When we expand the tools of communication, we’re not just improving technology — we’re spreading awareness and changing culture. We’re reminding schools, businesses, and communities that inclusion means more than open doors. It means creating spaces where every voice — no matter how it’s expressed — can be valued and respected.
